Former Vice President of Nigeria; Atiku Abubakar Gotel Communications, a company owned by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, on Friday, confirmed that it sacked some of its workers. There had been reports that the company sacked about 46 of its employees on Workers’ Day. It was reported that the company, in a letter by its General Manager, Mohammed El Yakubu, had sacked the workers. The founder of DAAR communication Chief Raymond Dokpesi The founder of DAAR Communications, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, his daughter-in-law and six members of his family have tested positive for coronavirus. This comes three days after his son and Chairman of the board of the company, Raymond Dokpesi Jnr, tested positive for the virus. According to  ait.live,  a test conducted by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on the Dokpesi family came out positive for the eight members of the family. It stated that other affected family members were, on Friday, conveyed by the NCDC to the isolation centre at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, where his son was receiving treatment. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, on Friday, described as an act of illegality the request by the Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, that lecturers who had yet to receive their salaries should submit their Biometric Verification Number as a pre-condition for payment. The Nigerian president has expressed deep concern over a high number of unexplained deaths in the northern state of Kano, amid fears they could be caused by Covid-19. President Muhammadu Buhari said  a lockdown would be imposed in Kano for an additional two weeks, and that he was sending a government team to investigate. President Muhammad Buhari Standing With The National Podium to address the Nation President Buhari will address the nation at 8pm today, April 27. This was confirmed in a statement issued in Abuja by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, on Monday. This would be the third time the President would be doing a live broadcast since the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The statement enjoined broadcast stations to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) respectively for the broadcast. The president will be expected to speak on the current lockdown he had earlier imposed on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos and Ogun states as some state governors have called for an interstate restriction of movements to contain the virus. Minister of Information - Kai Mohammed  The Abia State Government has countered a claim made by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, over the recent killing of a petrol attendant in the state. Mr Mohammed, during a recent briefing of the presidential task force on COVID-19 said the man was killed by a motorist, and not the police. “The petrol attendant was not actually killed by the policeman,” Mr Mohammed had said. “Fact at our possession is that the policeman hit a Keke, people were protesting so during the protest another motorist hit the petrol attendant.” Continuing, he said, “Well, it does not matter who killed, a life is very precious but we just wanted to establish the fact of the matter that the petrol attendant actually died when he was hit by an oncoming vehicle during the protest.” Read more....
